Everything looks the same and at the same time doesn’t
(2013)
Was I wasting my mind more? Or my body? or my time? The three of them were being wasted away – no doubt in that – but it wasn’t clear to me which one was being wasted the most. And it also wasn’t clear whether these three were three separate things or were related. They seem so different from each other that one couldn’t possibly believe they’re one single thing, but at the same time, as the existence of one of them is so depended on the other, one possibly couldn’t believe that they are separate from each other. At least I couldn’t. anyway, the three of them were being wasted. -And still are.-
Things that are being missed, are so missed that you cannot say what they are. You just feel they’re not there. You know they’re not. You can see them. Not in their real shape, not like you can imagine them, and not even like some empty black holes with nothing in them but emptiness. They can only be imagined as “things that don’t exist,” or only as “things that should exist, but we can’t even know what they are.” They’re some blank spaces that you can’t fill up even with all the full spaces that are getting fuller and fuller everyday. This is exactly why, in the middle of the night, with your breath congealed in the throat, you get so frustrated that you get out of the house and start searching for them in the screwed-up streets of the city. you search and search, hoping to happen to get a glimpse of one of them, but nothing happens. No matter how much you search, you won’t find them. You know you can finally blame these rushing-out-of-the-houses on your arguments with your father or on your girlfriend whose texts you’re not in the mood for answering, not even on the cigarette you want to smoke, but you haven’t become that comfortable with your mom yet, so you can’t just light it up in your room. – you can just blame them on things that are absent that you can’t say what they are.
When it’s past midnight, a lot of things happen in the city. – Things that you’re not a part of.
Maybe someone wants to leave the country tonight. So their friends want to be around them before they leave. So they all go to say goodbye at the airport.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Or maybe a couple is coming back from a party. After the guy drives the girl back to her place, the moment she is getting off the car, he loses his control and puts his hand on the her breasts, then, when the girl doesn’t say anything, he jokes: “Whose are these?” The feeling of letting someone – who she still isn’t sure if she can trust or not – is so good that she lets him touch her body. “These? They’re yours.” She replies.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Maybe there’s a crowded street in the city, where you can have a lot of fun in the middle of the night.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Or for instance, a bus which has been stuck in the traffic in Jaddeh Ghadim for two or three hours has finally arrived at the bus station. A passenger has decided to smoke a cigarette peacefully, then look for the address, but taxi drivers won’t leave him alone.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Maybe your ex-girlfriend eventually decides to stop using her laptop. Then when she lays down on her bed and closes her eyes, she suddenly starts thinking about you. So much that when she wakes up in the morning, she finds out she’s been dreaming of you all night.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Maybe a filmmaking group is shooting a scene which can only be shot during the night. – A film that will probably change the professional future of its filmmaker.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
Maybe one of the Mirdamad prostitutes has eventually agreed to reduce 20000 tomans of her price and finally gets in a white Peugeot 206. she’s been negotiating on the price with the driver for about ten minutes.
Anyway, you’re not a part of it.
A man looks around him. His wife, his two daughters and his son are sitting around the table. They’re his family. He likes it.
Tomorrow is the first day of a boy’s military service. he should have slept much earlier, but he just moves around in he’s bed. He can’t fall sleep.
In a publication house, it’s a very busy night. There’s a very important piece of news that’s supposed to be published tomorrow.
A woman wakes up suddenly. It takes a little while until she finds out that it was her baby’s crying sound that woke her up.
Anyway, you’re not a part of any of them.
You’re walking around in the city. Searching for things that are so missed, you can’t even say what they are. The same alleys and streets and cars and buildings that you always see. -almost every night-
